AVM is a ministry dedicated to reaching the native people of Alaska with the Gospel, equipping believers for Christian service at Alaska Bible Institute, and broadcasting hope across Alaska through Christian Radio.

If you feel God is calling you to serve Him in Alaska keep reading to find out more about what He is doing through AVM and our missionaries.

Village Missions

Reaching Alaska

AVM is focused on 12 Villages along the Alaska Peninsula . Most of these villages do not have an evangelical Christian church, sharing the message of hope. Our goal is to bring the message of Jesus Christ to these villages.

Bible Institute

Training & Equipping

ABI is a two-year Biblical studies program designed to give its students an environment to seek God through His word. Your time at ABI will equip you with a Biblical foundation that guides you through life no matter your career path.

Christian Radio

Broadcasting the Message

Our Christian radio program is focused on using the airwaves to spread the message of Jesus Christ. In partnership with Moody Radio, we broadcast the gospel in various locations throughout Alaska.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do AVM missionaries do?

Our village ministry includes both resident and transient ministries. The missionaries provide bible studies and prayer meetings, church services, Vacation Bible School and other children’s ministries, youth events, athletic camps/events, family “fun” nights, gospel sing-alongs, airstrip prayer times and devotions, and meeting needs of those whom we are with. Everything we do is centered around relationships.

How can I become an AVM missionary?

AVM missionaries need to have a two-year Bible or Ministry degree, which we offer at our Bible school, Alaska Bible Institute (ABI), [link to ABI], or equivalent ministry experience [how far into the weeds do we get here?], and go through an application and interview process. Additionally, AVM missionaries are required to raise their own support, so on-boarding as a missionary can be a tedious process, but the Lord equips and supports those He calls! Please fill out the “Contact Form” [link] and share a paragraph or two about your journey to this point. An AVM leader will contact you to explore what the Lord is doing in your life.

Who should I talk to if I’d like to help us start (or restart) a church in my village here in Alaska?

Please fill out the Contact Form and we will get a hold of you!

Does AVM host short-term missions teams?

AVM is looking for churches to partner with, which could potentially lead to short-term mission trips, but we don’t host teams without a deep partnership already established. ABI hosts missions “work teams” in Homer every summer, though!

What is your greatest need?

a. Our greatest need is prayer. The greatest gift you can give our ministry is praying for the Lord to open the hearts and minds of those we serve, and to lead us and protect us…every day. See our prayer requests page (create prayer requests page and add link).

b. Of course we have financial needs, which are an important part of sending us as missionaries to share the gospel and make disciples. If you feel so led, you can give here (link).

c. We are continuously praying to the Lord of the harvest to send out more laborers into His harvest field here in Alaska. So if you feel God might be calling you, don’t hesitate to reach out! (link)

Where can I find a list of your radio station transmitters?

You can find a list of our radio stations right here.

Testimonials

I have so appreciated the leadership and team involvement from AVM in coming alongside us in ministering here in Sand Point! They bring their love of God and joys of knowing Jesus as they interact with our youth and adults while sharing in daily activities from basketball to berry picking and harvest to shared meals as the joys of walking with Jesus Christ are lived out amongst us.

– Pastor Scott Morgan

There are not enough wonderful things that I can say about the work Alaska Village Missions has done throughout the Alaskan Peninsula Region over the past several years. Being a leader at Sand Point Baptist Chapel, we have partnered with AVM for the better part of a decade in order to provide our village with quality and Gospel-Centered Vacation Bible School opportunities. As AVM has changed leadership their passion and work has only continued to grow and we are so thankful to not only be served by AVM, but also seeing opportunities to serve with them to reach unchurched or underserved communities throughout our region.

– Austin Roof, Board Member at Sand Point Baptist Chapel
